A little under a year ago my squad was in Haiti. The sights that we saw were indescribable. I did the best that I could in the few blogs that I posted, but I know that my writing did not do the situation there the justice. I struggled with what I saw. It was the first country I have ever been in that I could feel that, as a whole, had rejected the God I so passionately love. I could see the deep roots of their rejection. They despised the help that we brought, the government took the much needed supplies given to them from past catastrophies and would sell them, and people rejected the fact that they are beautifully created by God and many times I was told I was more beautiful or favored by God because I was white. When I was there I visited the largest VooDoo camp in the world. It is where those who practice VooDoo or have a family history of VooDoo come every year for there “celebration.” Being there really hit me hard and made me question God’s justice and wrath. Were all the natural disasters that have happened been because of the corruption and idolatry? That is still a question I wrestle with. In the light of the recent earthquake, I have been praying for the country and it’s hurting people.

The other night while praying I saw myself longing after the heart of God. All of the sudden I saw God looking over his shoulder and when I looked to see what he was looking at it was Haiti. When I looked back at him he had tears gushing down his face. The feeling that washed through me was a complete shattering of my heart. I knew that God’s heart was broken for these people as well. He does not want this death and destruction that has engulfed this people. The way this earthquake has ripped through this country has made me see that God wants a complete rebuilding of this nation. He wants to start from the ground and work His way up. He wants every part of their lives to be shattered, especially what they have trusted in. He wants a shattering of their faith in false gods. It is now the time for the church to rise up and rebuild this country on the new foundation of Jesus Christ. Pray for Haiti! Give what you can to the rebuilding of Haiti.
