Guatz Up! Month 2 was all squad month. This meant all 41 of us racers and our 3 squad leaders in the same place. We worked with Agape in Action and were stationed at the Hospital Santa Elena in Santa Cruz del Quiche. Our ministry for the month in a nutshell included building carts for disabled people, helping at the hospital, working at the local daycare center, walking the streets of Quiche praying for people and helping build a dirt road. The land we were building this road on is going to be used to build a retreat/bible camp.
Things I learned this month:
Living in community is rough. My very good friend and former housemate would always say to me, “Kim, no one lives like you do”. She was right. People operate very differently and have different habits. My standards are far different than someone else’s. Sharing 2 bathrooms with 31 ladies was quite something. But hey! It’s the World Race!
I am more than just my Spanish. It seemed to me that translating was the only thing I brought to the table and come Albania i’m pretty useless to my team. False. Though it is very valuable and so very helpful to my squad and team, it’s not the only thing i’m good at. I didn’t come on the race to translate for 3 months. I’m still working on figuring out exactly what else I bring, besides sass and humor ( not to say these things aren’t valuable).
Tomorrow we head to El Salvador. Month 3 brings some changes. Our team leader has stepped down from that role and was moved to a different team :(. A new team leader was assigned and we gained a new teammate. This is a bittersweet change. Team changes are common on the race. We just happened to be first.
In El Salvador we are stationed in the city of La Libertad, by the beach!!!!! The name of our ministry is La Red Church/Christian Surfers. We will be staying at an orphanage and working both at the orphanage and doing projects around the community. I do believe this is their facebook page. It’s going to be tough to start a new ministry with a new team but I am ready for the challenge. All Out is ready to go “all out” for God, team changes and all. It doesn’t hurt that we’ll be at the beach… can you say best month ever!!!!
Stay Blessed
Kim 🙂
(Taking a break while building a dirt road… No worries, I didn’t actually eat that lol)
