One day at El Shaddai, the work crew went out into the garden to till the ground, make rows, and plant seeds. I enjoyed the manual labor. But more than that I loved the fact that we were investing in the future of the children’s home by planting a garden that will begin the process of sustaining their operation by growing their own food. It made me think about how much the Bible compares planting seeds to spreading the gospel, and how that is exactly what we are out here to do, plant and water seeds.
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything but God causes the growth. Now he who plants and waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his labor.” 1 Corinthians 3:6-9
I am thankful that it is God who is at work, long before we ever come to serve at a ministry, and that he will be working in and through the people there long after we leave. After all, it is God who causes the seeds to grow, both the seeds from the ground and the seeds of the gospel in our heart. All a gardener or disciple can do is prepare the soil, plant the seed, water it, and pray.
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2
There are people all over the world who have never heard of Jesus, who’s hearts are being prepared by God, who’s soil is ready, and they are just waiting to hear the name of Jesus and believe. So pray to the Lord that more workers will be raised up to go to the nations, to go out to the unreached people groups, to proclaim the hope and truth found I’m Christ!!
I am so excited to be out here on the battle ‘field’, scattering and watering seeds, all over the world.
