Depends on what you are talking about I suppose.  The old cliche’ certainly is true when is comes to our freedom here in America.  I for one often take that for granted because I don’t have family serving in the armed forces so I’m not reminded on a daily basis that I could lose someone at anytime.  And I’ve been thinking a lot about this on this 4th of July weekend.  Two of my squadmates have family serving in Iraq.  One outside of Bagdad so he’s relatively safe (as safe as one can be in a war zone) and the other in Bagdad.  He is the first one in and the last one to leave.  He puts his life on the line every single day so I have the opportunity to do pretty much what I want when I want.  Pretty amazing that he loves this country so much and those of us who live here that he would give his own life if needed so we could keep ours.  So no – our freedom isn’t free – it has and continues to come at a cost.

Which brings me to my life with Christ.  I have done nothing to deserve this freedom and yet I am free in Him.  He has freed me from sin, bondage, pain and certain death.  And all I did was accept Him as my Savior.  It was free to me and can be to anyone else who wants this same freedom.  Now I still have struggles and issues as that is all part of growing in Him.  And I screw up – a lot.  But I know that no matter what I do He forgives me, loves me and accepts me.  And I know that I will live with Him in eternity.  So this freedom doesn’t really cost me anything.  But it cost God everything.  It cost Him His Son.  I would not have this freedom if Jesus hadn’t shed His blood for me.

Revelation 1:5b “To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.”

That says it all.  He loves us and did what He had to to save us.  And He would do it again and He would do it just for you.
