Three months in Central America are behind me and we’ve arrived to the Philippines! It’s my first time out of the Americas and I’m so excited to visit new places and get to know the different cultures awaiting me in this part of the world. It’s the first time on the race that I haven’t been able to understand people speaking. A lot of people speak English here, but Tagalog is spoken most of the time. Along with a new continent comes a new team! This month all of the men were placed on teams together for manistry month and the women are placed together for womanistry month. My new team is named team Samba, which means ‘worship’ in Tagalog. My new teammates are Ara DeTorres, Andrea Sepulveda, Erin Wright, Megan Liesmaki, Georgia Wartman, and Sara Katherine Braucher as our team leader.
This month our team is working alongside another women’s team in Manila at Kids International Ministries, or KIM (great acronym if I do say so). Our contact this month wants us to find our passion and pour into that this month, so ministry has looked different for all of us. I’ve been tutoring kids at school and hanging out at the Children’s Home in the nursery. The place we are staying has absolutely spoiled us this month. We have amazing food, beds to sleep in, fans, washer AND dryer, a work out facility, a pool, and HOT SHOWERS! I’ve absolutely loved the Philippines so far. The country is beautiful and so are the people. These are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met and it is such an honor to serve them.
