I’ve always believed in healing. The Bible is clear that the Holy Spirit lives in us and He gives us gifts to edify each other and bring God’s glory on earth, one of them being healing. I’ve grown up hearing stories of miracles and healing that have happened to other people and thinking, “Wow! God’s awesome!” I’ve never seen immediate healing myself though, until this trip, and I’ve got to say, it’s been incredible.

One thing I struggled with before the race was my prayer life. I talked to God when I was alone, but it was difficult for me to pray with other people around. It’s been very stretching on this trip praying over people for healing or for whatever reason, but it’s been good, and the Lord has been growing me in that area and making me more bold and confident to speak the words He’s given me for the moment. During our first week in Granada, Nicaragua, God healed my teammate’s ankle, and let me be there to witness His greatness!

My teammate, Sara, and I were walking around the square one day talking and she happened to mention in conversation that her ankle was bothering her. It wasn’t a huge pain, but it was just an annoyance that she had been dealing with for a while that she wanted gone. So, God told me to pray for her. So we stopped walking and prayed. After we prayed for healing, she started walking again and the pain was completely gone! We were both so overjoyed that we got to experience immediate healing. It’s something that I want to see more often. It makes me wonder, how many times have I not obeyed God when He’s told me to pray for someone? How many times does He want to heal us, but we don’t ask Him? Too many times I go immediately to figuring out what should be done when someone is hurting or sick, when I should first go to prayer. It’s the strongest weapon we have, and instead of picking up our sword, we pick up a butter knife, somehow thinking that it’s the better way to go.

That day with Sara was awesome because it reminded me to be obedient to what God tells me. He knows His plans for me, and they are ALWAYS better than my own. He wants to show me His love not just through healing but in all ways…I just need to be obedient and trust Him.
