My best friends (and now my teammates) will testify: nothing quite floats my boat like karaoke, especially KTV, which is karaoke, but in your own personal room! (Sounds great, right?)

On our day off,  I invited my team to live the full KTV experience in a KTV in Phenom Phen, Cambodia.

I spent a mere $6.00 for an hour of KTV.

What I received was so much more.

When my squad leader, Erica and I entered the room, I  was so excited I could hardly contain myself.

Too giddy to make full sentences, I just squealed in joy. I received a quick tutorial about selecting songs, then scrolled through the selection to find the best song to start off with:

Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance

And then I jumped right into it, singing at my karaoke finest. Erica joined me as well, but I mainly focused on singing every “ ra ra ra ah ah” with passion, valor and excitement. Shortly after that, Ray and Paul came in, and began to view the song selection.

In past KTV experiences, whether conscious of it or not, I usually hogged the mic, (or I wanted to at least.)

I think I had too much pride.

But as my teammates came in, admired the furniture and atmosphere, and begin to select songs, something inside me changed: I genuinely wanted others to show their sweet karaoke skills and rock the mic before I did. Some great results of this were the following:

Ray & Cortney belting Bon Jovi’s  hit,  “Living on a Prayer”

Paul & Kehinde spittin’ Ja Rule’s # 1 hit, “Always on Time”

DeAnna bellowing Avicci’’s “Levels” and Keri Hilson’s “Pretty Girl Rock”

Kehinde and Rachel singing Monica and Brandy’s “The Boy Is Mine”

Erica was so sweet, for she consistently asked, “Did you pick a song?” or  “What are you going to sing next?”  and I did pick songs, but I just couldn’t help bumping up my teammates’ selections  on the play list before my own.

Through letting others sing first, I was humbling myself.

It was a beautiful thing.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Have you ever invited others into it?

If you never have, I challenge you to give it a try!

Fun Fact: I’m currently on my 7th month of the World Race. I’ve been fundraising since May 2013, and I’m just a mere $2,700 away from being fully funded. Will you help me finish the Race my donating to my World Race account?
