After 11 months I
have used countless toilets around the world. Some have been nice like the
bathroom in the ‘Christmas vacation’ house in South Africa and the Qatar hotel
bathroom; others have been not so nice like the outhouses in Swaziland or the
smelly truck stop toilets in Peru. If this were my scale, this month falls
somewhere on the lower end.

Again we have an
all-in-one sink, toilet, shower combo with no real distinction between areas.
The quirks are many:

1)    The toilet has no
toilet seat.

2)    The sink leaks from
the drainpipe on our feet.

3)    The shower drain is
clogged with cement creating a small pool after showers.

4)    To turn the water
to the sink on or off you have to turn the knob at least 10 times.

5)    I’m pretty sure
some sort of mold is growing in the sink.

Good news:

1)    Only cold water…
yes, that is good news.

     2)    We can flush toilet
paper… unfortunately we only found this out a few days ago.

Although we had western toilets, most of the local’s homes and public restrooms use the ‘squatty potty.’ I’ve used several of these on the race and it is still strange!

Next month HOME…
per some request I will post my final ‘Bathroom Edition’ in month 12.

Many Blessings,

Kim
