Sorry about the tardiness of this blog. Mozambique was a great month! We were all blessed to have the opportunity to work with the staff and students at Beacon of Hope. Here is a summary of my month in Mozambique:

Weather – Hot!!! For the first 3 days we were in Mozambique we had a monsoon; it rained almost non-stop. The rest of the month was spent sweating… basically like a GA summer, only hotter and with no AC.

Cultural Food – Carbs. Our diet this month mainly consisted of rice, potatoes, noodles, and bread. Every morning we had bread with butter and jam. For lunch and dinner we typically had a carb and either a vegetable or beans.
Breakfast everyday!

Common Transportation – Shapta’s – these are vans or bus taxis. One time we got a bus because there were so many of us. When I got on I felt like I was in elementary school because it smelled just like a school bus back home.

Housing/Bed – We slept on the floor on our sleeping pads under mosquito nets. The last week I slept outside in my tent because my roommates were all sick and my room became the infirmary.

Ministry – We spent the month teaching classes to the boys at Beacon of Hope, preparing lessons, and developing some curriculum. We did some manual labor as well.

Team – This month was huge for our team. We got a lot deeper and a lot more intentional as a family. Please pray for continual growth.

Spiritual Growth – This month I learned more about trusting God in His plan and His timing. With all of my physical problems going on I began to get frustrated with all of it. God opened my eyes to more of my desire for control and my need to let it go. He taught me even more that He has a plan even when I can’t see it.

Greatest Challenge – This month I was challenged physically. My foot caused me a lot of pain and ended up affecting every part of my life. Beyond that I got pink eye twice, I had a rash most of the month that may or may not have been ringworm, and in one day I stepped on barbed wire, got shocked by an electric fly swatter, and vomited without any known reason. Needless to say it was rough.

Verse – “Blessed is she who believes what the Lord tells her.” Luke 1:45

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” James 1:2-3

Favorite Moment – At the end of the month we had a sort of going away party. The staff and they boys all thanked us and some of them said more. One of the staff members said that they were thankful for the peace we brought. Later that night we learned that our contact had talked to Kyle and Kristen (the other teams leader), she had told both of them that since we had been here there had been a supernatural peace that we brought with us. She told them that before we came she would wake up every night unable to sleep because of the spiritual darkness and her nights were spent praying. She said that the night we came she slept through the night and had all month. It was a great testimony to hear that and I was encouraged that we brought the light that made the darkness flee!

Favorite Adventure – The trip to the bush was a great day and a great experience of a different culture. You can read about it HERE.

Fun Fact – The first 3 days we were in Mozambique we experienced a tropical storm. This was apparently a big deal for some reason I’m not exactly sure of, but it did halt seemingly everything in the community and gave the frogs a perfect breeding ground. (Our yard turned into an episode of Planet Earth!)

Many Blessings,
