Well, the bathroom this month was quirky!
First of all there were 14 people sharing one toilet, sink, and shower. That
was interesting but really not a whole lot different from past months. What was
different this month was the water situation. On a good day we have running
water from around 6am to early afternoon. This means that every morning people
get in line for a shower and hope that the water stays on long enough to get it
in. That didn’t always happen. On more than one occasion the water turned off
mid-lather and I had to finish with a bucket shower. Then there were the few
days that the water didn’t come on at all! At this point bucket showers are no
longer dreaded, but rather I am thankful that I get a shower at all. Because of the potential for no water
at any given time, every time the water did come on we filled up as many
buckets around the house as we could so that we could make it through the day.

Some other quirks about this bathroom were
that mosquitoes loved it there… not exactly the ideal place on my end, but
perfect for them. There is no such thing as hot water unless you boil it, which
you wouldn’t because most days you are grateful for anything close to cold. We
are back to not flushing toilet paper, and everyday the toilet paper must be
burned. The rule: ‘if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down,’
applies here. And it really isn’t a big deal, but I can’t get over the fact
that the knobs on the faucet rotate forward. Regardless of the fact that we
clean the bathroom twice a day, within 2 minutes of a mopping the floor is
covered it dirt again. And finally, unless you are in the middle of changing or are on the
toilet, it is polite/normal to leave the door unlocked so that others can use it while
you are showering.

There are lots of fun quirks about this
bathroom; the weirdest thing though is that none of this is weird now. It’s the
end of month 7 and I’m not sure anything would be out of the ordinary anymore.
Many Blessings,
Kim
