Before I came on The World Race I had an
expectation that every month there would be unimaginably difficult living
conditions. So far, I have yet to experience this. I have concluded that there
are two possibilities as to the reason for this; one, the next 6 months are
going to be beyond difficult and God wanted to bless us before we get there, or
two, my expectations were so low that anything looks amazing. Either way I am
grateful for the many blessings we have this month.
This month we are staying in the churches mission house. It is an older home
that is continually being worked on but has kept a lot of its old charm. Here
is a picture of my favorite part of the house:
Our bathroom this month is kind of like a
small dorm bathroom. This month it is 16+ people to 2 toilets, showers, and
sinks. (I say 16+ because there are 14 of us, 2 girls who live in the home, and
other random people who come to work at the house.) I recently learned that the
bathroom used to be the kitchen in the home but has recently been renovated.
This inevitably means the kitchen smells really bad… but that is another story.
Here are some of the quirks of this
bathroom:
differently than what we are used to and we don’t know how to fix them, so
every time you flush you have to
turn the water off shortly after to keep the water from running continuously
foot and a half of space in the shower to change cloths in which you have to do
because of the number of people who could potentially walk in the bathroom at
any given time
– the water in the
shower changes temperature every 30ish seconds – hot cold hot cold
are shower curtains and walls water still moves on the floor from one shower to
the other… if you are in the ‘other’ your cloths that are on the floor, because
there is no where else to put them, will be wet
– you have to slam
the door every time you go into or out of the bathroom, simply shutting is just
not an option
here and having everyone around. My favorite part of the day is mealtime
because we have a huge table that we all sit around just like a big family!
Sometimes we even talk about the bathroom… I don’t know why but it is a common
meal time conversation on The World Race… go figure!
