Hello family and friends! Just wanted to send a quick update from India, regarding the incoming cyclone Phailin.
All of R Squad is located in the southeast portion of India, in the Andhra Pradesh state. The cyclone is forecasted to hit approximately 350 miles north from the team closest to the expected landfall city of Odisha. The storm is currently being compared to a category 5 hurricane, much like Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005.
Adventures in Missions (AIM) staff and our World Race Squad Leaders have talked with our primary ministry host, India Christian Ministries (ICM), and determined that we are safe. Although we will likely receive additional rainfall and increased winds, we are not in the immediate at-risk area.
The entire squad leadership staff including myself with Logistics will continue to monitor the situation and take the required actions as deemed necessary from AIM, ICM and specific needs per team.
I will attempt to post another update after the storm makes landfall on Saturday evening, to keep everyone up to date.
My team, Night Moves, is furthest north and therefore closest to the storm and its projected path into India. We ask for your prayers for our team safety, as well as the rest of R squad, the other World Race squads here and the entire nation.
Love always,
– Kev
