Ok so here goes. Yet another travel day. MONTH 10!!!!!!!!
We start off at Adrift the rafting company we stayed with for two nights as a squad in Jinja, Uganda.
7:30 am got up early to plug in my computer before the swarm so that I would have at least a few hours of entertainment on our ongoing travel shenanigan
Had breakfast.
10:30 am Started packing, ducktaped my airporter back together
11:30 am Finally get all packed up and drag my stuff up to the parking lot and went back down to hang out and wait for the bus.
12:00 pm Bus is scheduled to arrive now.
12:30 pm Still no bus..
1:00-2:00 pm My dramine kicked in and I had a bit of a nap
2:15 pm Still no bus…
3:00 pm THE BUS IS HERE!!! Only three hours late though…
3:20 pm Sitting at the front of the bus with Tracey
3:30 pm Finally leave adrift only 3 1/2 hours late..
5:45 pm got to the Ugandan border, exited, walked a bit and went in through the Kenyan border.
6:20 pm Made it back to the bus
6:50 pm The bus finally leaves the border without leaving anyone behind
9:45 pm stopped for a squatty potty break not sure where though.
At this point the roads are dirt and pretty rough and sleep is looking as if it is a far fetched dream.
2:10 am Stop in Nakuru for a quick bathroom break
4:40 am Stopped in Nairobi
7:45 am got the border went through the Kenya side smoothly and sat around for a while on the Tanzania end
They processed all of the visas together so they could charge it so it took a while yet another hurry up and wait time
8:50 am Leave the border
10:15 am Stop again
While stoped I saw a kid on a bike wearing a clemson sweatshirt! So random but cool at the same time. Though Carolina will still stomp them this year.
12:00 pm -1:00 pm Stop near Mt. Kilimanjaro though it was cloudy so we could only see part of it.
2:00 pm Stop to put 10 people in cars before the weigh station because our bus is too heavy
2:30 pm Pick our people back up off the side of the road
4:40 pm Stop for dinner at Liverpool Restaurant
5:10 pm Back on the bus
5:20 pm The bus breaks…
5:30 pm Back to the Liverpool restaurant
6:15 pm Find out the par they need will take 2 1/2 hours to get there
8:30 pm Find out that we will be spending the night in the resaturant and getting a new bus at 5 am
10:00 pm watch Juno and color in my journal (Praise the Lord for Sharpies!)
12:00 am Hang out with Phil playing a question game
1:30 am Give up staying up and go on the bus to sleep
3:15 am get woken up and told the bus is here and wants to leave early
4:00 am new clothes, bags packed sitting on the new bus
5:00 am Finally leave the restaurant
Stopped twice to be weighed and had to shift people around to cheat our way through
Slept till about 9:00 am
11:30 am Got to the bus station in Dar es salaam
1:30 pm Find out we will not be getting a bus and are staying the night with Mac’s team along with Cody, Lindsey, and Josh’s teams
2:00 pm Cram onto our ride
3:15 pm Make it to the house we will be staying at
3:45 pm Put on swim suits and went to the beach in tuk tuks and bodas with Jessica, Sarah, Aimie, Phil, Dex, Jake, Angela, Brie, Rachel, Jacinda, Krystal, and Ashley
Swam in the Indian Ocean in Africa and shampooed our hair.
Decided we were hungry and walked to a resort and asked if we could eat
They were out of almost everything but I had spaghetti, chips and a coke.
We found an Ice Cream vendor and got Ice cream.
Danced to the great music playing at the resort
“Showered” in the sink in the resorts bathroom.
Snuck into another resort party for a few minutes before catching tuk tuks back.
Got super lost but after about 30 extra minutes made our way back to the house.
Moved our stuff into the neighbors house where we crashed for the night.
3:30 am Got up and packed.
4:20 am City Bus arrived and we crammed 26 people with all of our bags in an 18 passenger vehicle. Super fun.
5:15 am Made it to the bus station where we had to put on our mean faces to protect our bags. Not so hard that early in the morning.
5:30 am Walked with our bags forever to find our bus.
6:15 am On the bus at last
7:20 am Leave the bus station I think but I was asleep
8:45 am Wake up for a little while. Jess and I luckily got to keep our seats we snagged in the fron because we were both feeling sick when we got on. No one apparently wanted to deal with the mzungus in the wrong place.
9:45 am stopped at a bus station and switched passengers
10:45 am Drove through a national park and saw giraffes, zebras, impalas, gazelle, baboons, and possibly some hyenas
1:30 pm Stopped for lunch got pringles and black currant fanta
4:15 pm Finally after the longest travel time ever we make it to Iringa, unload and say our goodbyes and wait for Pastor Emmanuel to pick us up.
4:45 pm Make it to the church and get a tour
Decide we may need to look for a guest house to stay at
Dex, Jobie, and Becca find a sweet place we get our stuff and move over there.
Sarah and I are rooming together with a western toilet and sort of hot water!!!!!!!!
Went to a little restaurant for dinner. Had chips and beans.
Watched Drop Dead Gorgeous with Sarah and finally headed to bed for our first official night’s sleep of MONTH 10 in IRINGA, TANZANIA!!!
So yet again another crazy travel day!
