Travel Day to the Philippines 12/31/2010
6:20 am –
people insist on showering and wake me up.
8:00 am – start packing up
9:30 am – done packing
9:35 am – make a bag of popcorn to share with Becca (great
breakfast if you ask me)
10:00 am – Jessica give me half a cherry coke she found =
pure bliss
10:20 am – bus arrives
10:30 am – bags loaded waiting on bus to go pick up the boys
10:45 am – leave to get boys
11:02 am – arrive at boys to get them loaded up.
11:35 am – leave for the airport
11:55 am – AIRPORT
12:45 am – get in line to check in
1:30 pm – go through security and obviously get my stuff
torn apart
2:00 pm – get a tiny pizza and coke from papa johns for $9
2:30 pm – watch saved by the bell with phil
3:00 pm – wander around airport looking for internet to text
mom
4:00 pm – back to gate 2
5:00 pm – board plane for el Salvador seat 21 B
5:30 pm – take off time
5:53 pm – get sketchy chicken turn over thing and
gingerbread cookie
6:28 pm – land in el Salvador

6:55 pm – check in
7:05 pm – board same plane for los angeles
7:10 pm – addie sketchily jumps over me to get into her seat
7:33 pm – take off for los angeles
9:30 pm – sketchy ham & mashed potatoes, roll &
Christmas tree cookie

Letters to Juliet
12:30 am (10:30 p.m. ) – land in LAX
Get through Customs, get our bags, and head to the international
terminal.
11:50 pm Make it to the international terminal in time to
get our bags off and ring in the new year as a squad!
12:00 am HAPPY
NEW YEAR!!!!! WELCOME 2011!!!
12:10 am leave with Chelsea, Sarah, Zeb, and Sean for the
Raddison Hotel
Get to the hotel check in we are in room 811.
First thing after putting my stuff down I go in the bathroom
turn the hot water on in the sink and just sit with may hands under it. So glorious.
Hang out check online post that we made it to LA.
1:00 am Walk to In and Out Burger around to go get some food
and make it just in time they take their last orders at 1:30 am.
Hang out and eat till they kick us out around 2 am.
Walk to CVS and just absorb all the goodness there. Buy some necessities and find a ride
with one of Sean’s friends back to the hotel around 3 am.
3:30 am lay down for around an hour
4:00 am Take the most wonderful, glorious, long blistering
hot shower ever!
Take a quick cat nap in my sleep number bed till 5:45 am.
Get up and pack our stuff.
6:20 am catch a shuttle back to LAX
6:35 am – get back to airport
7:10 am – get in line to check in
8:20 am – through security
8:30 am – waiting around at the gate for the squad before
going to find breakfast
10:45 am – board plane. Aisle seat finally
11:45 am – take off for Hong Kong
So at this point I basically stopped writing down times but
I will give you a close estimate.
For lunch I had Salmon, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots, Peas, and
Lima Beans. A roll, Shrimp Orzo
Pasta Salad, and Raspberry Cheesecake.
It was pretty much amazing.
Watched Life As We Know It.
Watched The Romantics.
Watched Charlie St. Cloud
For dinner I had A Pasta dish, roll, fruit salad, and an
Apple Turnover with vanilla sauce.
Watched Step Up 3
Started watching Going the Distance but it was dumb.
Watched Avatar in between short naps.
To be honest I got so confused with time changes that I’m
not sure when we got to Hong Kong but it wasn’t too late their time.
Got McDonalds and walked around trying to find a pharmacy
type place cause I had a really bad sore throat. But all they had were like Prada and Gucci and ridiculous
designer places.
I think we took of around 10:30 pm Hong Kong Time
Got served a random beef pie barbecue bread thing? Not really sure what it was.
Landed in Manilla around midnight.
Went through customs and found our contact had to switch
airports but first ditched our tents, sleeping bags, and extra stuff we
wouldn’t need to stay with the teams in Manilla because our bags could only
weigh 30 lbs. I still don’t think
my bag weighed 30 but they did the total weight of the group and we were dead
on. So yay for guys not packing as
much as me : )
Had Cinnabon in the airport before boarding around 4 am.
Landed on the island of Mindanao at about 6:30 am got on the
bus with our contact Jeremy Moody and stopped at a McDonalds and Starbucks
before our 2 ½ to 3 hour bus ride to where we are staying at the orphanage.
Got to the orphanage around 10:00 am got stuff unloaded and
cleaned up the rooms from the group that had left an hour before we got their.
11 am hit my bed, and hit it hard. Slept for 19 hours.
That was my travel day to the Philippines… or rather days.
This was a long one friends but thanks for all the prayers
for travel safety we didn’t have a single delay which is pretty amazing
considering it was a holiday weekend!
And I think we arrived on the 3rd? I’m not really sure.
