“As
the time draws nearer, its been exciting to see the plans for our time
in Thailand to start becoming clearer. As I’m sure you all know, both
the sex industry and human trafficking are huge problems in Thailand.
In many countries including Thailand, Youth with a Mission is directly
involved with rescuing and caring for trafficked woman and children,
however in recent years and huge focus of their ministry has been
working to prevent both of these things by working with the local
people to prevent trafficking and working to provide alternative sources
of income to prostitution. Our team has decided that our time in
Thailand will be spent in prevention work as well.
Our first three weeks, we are going to be in the South of Thailand in a city called Nakhon Si Thammarat. As our desire is to prevent human trafficking and prostitution, we will be doing a lot of children ministry by visiting schools
and speaking to children about their worth and the importance of
education as well as teaching English and sports. We will also do
slum/city prayer walks, prayer for the sick and lead a Christmas and new
year program. We are really excited about partnering with the local
church in Nakhon Si Thammarat and
our prayer is that we can come be an encouragement to the locals who
have been tirelessly working in this area for many years now.
Our second four weeks are going to be in the Northern part
of Thailand working with the Hill Tribes, some of the most unreached
people groups in the world (more details to come!). Many people in this
part of the country suffer from extreme poverty because there is very
little land, (only about 10%) that is good for agriculture and often
the land that is arable is owned and manipulated by the wealthy in the
region. Out of a sense of desperation, the young people from these
tribes, woman especially, go to the cities of Bangkok and Pattaya to
look for work in order to support their families. But because both of
these places have massive job shortages and because these woman are
often uneducated, and it doesn’t take long for them to get manipulated
into selling themselves as a means to an end. We are really excited to
minister to these people and partner with the local ministries there
who are telling these people the good new of Jesus before they sucked
into this vortex.”
I leave for Thailand
