Well here it is….
I experienced my first demon possession here in Africa.
It was Wednesday afternoon. We were told before that we would be evangelizing in the community to which the church is situated. Pastor Paul was our group translator and he took David, Amanda and myself on a little hike to get to a person’s house.
We knocked on the door and the door opened and immediately I recognized the women from church. The family brought four stools to sit on and the woman began to share a story to the pastor and I immediately felt something stir in my spirit. I knew right away that we were dealing with the demonic and next I heard the pastor say that the woman’s daughter Grace is possessed with an evil spirit. Soon they called for the daughter to come out. At first I was thinking this is just a sad and lonely women but soon we heard her story.
Although she believes in Jesus, she has also been influenced by witchcraft since she was a young girl. Her grandmother is a witch doctor but every single person in her family has been hurt by it. The witch doctor killed her father, other grandmother and her first-born. Amanda asked her “ you have must seen a lot of scary things. “ And she replied yes and I don’t want to see it anymore.
For next two days we began to speak truth to her. We told her what a relationship with Jesus looks like. How you cannot love God and love the world. I told her how God set me free from my bondage and how the Lord loves her so much and nothing is impossible with him.
On Thursday we showed her what worshiping Jesus looks like. David led worship but the eerie thing was that she knew the songs, when these songs are brand new. Again, she just continued to say she wanted prayer for her stomach issues. Because we ran out of time we asked to meet with her again on Friday but to also to bring anything that still connects her to witchcraft and that we will destroy it.
It was Friday and I knew today was the day that whatever is going on that this woman will be set free. We began to worship and I spoke to her about confessing who Jesus is Romans 10:9-10. Then I led her through the salvation prayer but also allowed her to repent of her rebellion and witchcraft and then led her through a time of renouncing her involvement with Satan and announcing that she is now in Christ.
Pastor Paul asked her to kneel on the ground and led her through a prayer of healing for the stomach issues (which was demons) and immediately her fist tightened against her chest and she leaned at first forward but then was led to go on her back. She began to manifest and screamed. Pastor Paul allowed the demons to speak and he asked them, “ who sent you?� and they said a name and the name, which was Grace’s grandmother, who is a witch doctor. The demons were so strong as Amanda can attest too but as we prayed in the name of Jesus they left. Afterward, you could tell that this woman was no longer tortured and peace was washed over her. I led her through a prayer to let the Holy Spirit reign in her life and she left free.
I still don’t know what to think about this experience. I am still shocked but I am also amazed how the Lord used Amanda, David and me. God used Amanda for her compassion and for this woman to know that she is loved, David for his heart of worship to manifest the presence of the Lord and for me to bring the word, which is the truth. God is so good. It is to Jesus who deserves the credit.
Jesus you are the way the truth and life. Thank you for saving this woman. Thank you for your deliverance. Thank you for showing your compassion and mercy. O God you are holy and just. You are the same; yesterday forever, you are the same. You never let go any of your children. Thank for not giving up on Grace and for showing your heart to her. Abba, Jesus and Holy Spirit may you be glorified forever and ever. You are amazing and I love you!!!
