Let me first say that Australia is not at all what I thought, imagined or expected it to be. It has surprised and shocked me. I really should have done some research before I got here. But you know life happens and you forget about the countries you will soon be going to. Until now that I am standing in the middle of the rainforest wondering why I never knew there was a rainforest here in the first place.
Our ministry in Australia is located at the Danier Rainforest National Park. It is the world’s oldest rainforest and it is one of two locations in the world where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef and is located North Queensland, Australia. We will be working with the Aboriginal (or ‘indigenous’) people who live the outskirts of Mossman. These people have been rejected by all society standards and yet they are desperately trying to hold onto their traditions that have been poorly stripped away. We are in a community where alcohol is prevalent not just only in men but also in women.
