Do you think God still speaks? That the God of the Old Testament who spoke clearly to Joseph in dreams, to Moses in a burning bush, to Samuel in the night in an audible voice, and to David through music still speaks today? We are living in a world and age where the still small voice of God is drowned out by the noise! Here is the thing, God is still the God of the Old Testament and the New Testament. He is today; forever Jesus is still the same! He speaks in the small still voice; he speaks in the crackling wind and the thunderous boom. He speaks through encouraging words. He speaks through the homeless person on the street and the person next to you on the bus. He speaks in the word of God and he speaks through you and me.

Before we left the training camp we spent some time with the Lord. We prayed and saw some words and pictures that the Lord gave to us. When we were out in the community we followed the Lord’s leading. Our team decided to go into a residential area and we saw this huge hill and I was thinking, Lord you’re not making me walk this hill right? And for sure we walked up this hill. The story I want to share was my friend was given these numbers 546. We were on the right street because we saw other numbers 544 and 545 but not 546. But on our right there was a large concrete building, surrounded by a fence and on this building were sprayed painted profanity and the numbers 666. Immediately we all felt this sick heaviness over us and we prayed over the community and the people because there was a sense of the spirit of witchcraft. We began to walk down the hill and there was a large black dog that was barking at us but as soon as the dog heard us pray its mouth was shut. We continued to pray and as we reached the end of the street, the heaviness was lifted off of us.
Afterwards, some of the pictures we saw from the Lord were revealed which was neat to see. God was leading us on an amazing scavenger hunt. We continued to walk and decided to go into a Mexican restaurant for appetizers. While there we were able to speak and encourage the two ladies running the restaurant. They allowed us to make a tortilla’s which was an awesome experience and we prayed and thanked them for their hospitality.

Our team continued to walk and we were able to pray for many more people. The next story I would like to share is about a local Thrift Store. We were able to talk to the owner who shared about their ministry. She shared how they wanted a ministry that was more than used clothing. They wanted to reach the core of this community and show them Christ’s love. We were able to intercede and pray for blessings over this ministry, which obviously has made a contribution to this community in such a short period of time. They opened in March 2009.
My primary purpose in sharing these stories is so you can see that God still speaks, we just need to ask. During our adventure we felt that the hand of God was leading us and showing us to whom we needed to speak too. We felt the pain and the suffering of these precious people and wanted to do more than just spend a few hours in their community. It takes consistent care takers and prayer warriors to make impact. But my adventure taught me that we should never be afraid to share the gospel or to love the unlovely. Though there was a language barrier I know there is no language barrier with God and our prayers were heard. I know that there was healing, forgiveness, prosperity, and wisdom taken root in the people’s lives we prayed over. God is good!
So here is my challenge to you. Ask the Lord. Where do you want me to go today Lord? Who do you want me to speak too? Ask for some pictures or words. Then go into the community God leads you too and watch Him use you. All it takes is a willing soul and heart full of love to go and proclaim His name. Will you be this person?
Father I come before you and thank you for creating each of your children, with a purpose. We are called to love you and to love others. I ask that your Holy Spirit will pour upon each of us. Empowering us and moving in us to take a step of faith and tell how great you are to all peoples, to all nations. We are not meant to twiddle our thumbs and do nothing. We are called to change our world, to create new beginnings in the lives of others by proclaiming freedom. Will you cry out and say, “Lord I am your servant I will go, I will do and I will say what you called me to say?” Jesus we are yours and we submit to your will to obey. May love be written on our hearts and peace be on fire on our tongues. In Jesus name. Amen
