I hope this letter finds you and your family well!
I want to catch you up on some happenings in my life. For the past few years I have had a love for Africa and not really understood why. Thanks to the support of amazing family and friends, last summer I was blessed with the opportunity to spend two weeks in Nairobi, Kenya teaching children different skills and sharing the love of Jesus with them. During that time there were 3 things God spoke to me. 1). I have a heart for Africa because His Spirit is there. 2). It would not be my last time in Africa and 3). It was just the beginning of my journey as a missionary. The biggest realization I came to while there was; I get to live eternally in Heaven with Jesus so why not pour out my life for others while here on Earth?
Shortly after returning from Kenya through prayer and circumstances I believed my time in Houston had come to an end. I believed that God wanted me to pursue photography, which He’d given me in 2008. So this past November, I took the step of faith, quit my job, had a garage sale, sadly said goodbye to my amazing H-town fam and moved to California.
Now what was I going to do?! My plan was to try and become a photographer’s assistant so that I could learn real photography business experience. Yet this was not working out and what I was noticing is either you’re already an expert in the field or just beginning and willing to bust your chops for free and I was smack dab in the middle.
After a few months of prayer and trying to figure out what was next I was reminded of the World Race, a Christian ministry through an organization, Adventures in Missions (AIM.) I had heard about it 2 years ago but thought it was completely impossible for me. Yet this time I knew it was exactly what God was calling me too! His plans are definitely not what I had in mind!
Yet I am excited to announce that starting September 2014 I will begin this new journey!!!!
If you’re still wondering what the World Race is, well it’s an 11 month missions trip to 11 different countries around the world. Through the race I will embark on an adventure of personal and spiritual growth. My team and I will be backpacking through each country partnering with churches and ministries in local communities to preach the Gospel, praying with women and children who have been affected by or trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking. We will also spend time with children in orphanages and strive to share the love and hope of Jesus in broken places.
My heart leaps out of my chest thinking about all of the possibilities. Yes, I am nervous but my excitement and readiness to be a part of the crazy, amazing, “God you did that,” work He is doing all over the nations outweighs the nervousness! I am so humbled and grateful that He would call me to be a part of this amazing opportunity and that He would give me my heart’s desire to travel the world using photography and storytelling to share His unfailing love. Wow!
My prayer is that you would join me as an addition to this team to journey across the world sharing all that Jesus has for EVERYONE!!
