The thing that I was most nervous about at camp was finding out who would be on my team.
But, I now know I shouldn’t have been worried at all, because God had big plans for who would be on my team and how we would work together.
The 5th day of camp we finally found out who was on our team: drum roll please…….
Jake Van Norman: Team Leader
Pretty fancy group in my opinion.
Our first assignment as a team was to make a memory… Doing whatever we wanted. So if you have ever gone to World Race training camp you would know the first few days of food are less than appetizing. Example: sardine rice water soup for breakfast. Yummmm! Of course our first memory as a team was eating. Typical. Our first stop was Brusters. Ice cream after no sugar for days… Heaven! I, of course got strawberry shortcake. It was amazing. But, enough about food, it’s making me hungry.
Our next stop was downtown Cartersville, GA. We weren’t sure where this would lead us, but it ultimately led us to food. Imagine that! We found a restaurant called ‘The City Cellar’. Our time at The City was an amazing time of getting to know each other, meeting the owner of the restaurant (who was a Christian and showed us a pretty cool trick with a piece of paper), and absolutely having a blast! Thanks to the staff at ‘The City’. They were so hospitable and kind. Plus, the food was fantastic.
After our amazing time at the restaurant it was time to drive back to camp. It was right around this time when I realized my phone was missing.. Which means I left it somewhere… VERY typical.
On our drive back we decided that our team would be called ‘Team City Lights’. The idea originated from our first experience loving each other and our opportunity to share who we are and what we were doing at ‘The City’. We wanted our team to represent the Light of Jesus throughout the world, in every city that we might end up in.
Side note: When we arrived at camp my phone was there waiting on me. Some June racers had gone to Brusters after us and found my phone. Woohoo!
Basically, I love my team.
