I actually was never one of those kids that doodled all the time in my notebook rather than listening to the teacher. I was actually quite studious, but yesterday I think I became one of those kids who doesn’t like to pay attention in class. Because I was only there to correct their pronunciation, and we weren’t to that part of the lesson yet, I just sat with the kids. One young man, pictured below, decided he would just start ripping pages out of his notebook and run to the back of the building and throw them away.

He did this about three times, and was about to do it again, when I just slipped my hand over the notebook and started sketching a cat. I wrote ‘CAT’ next to it and thought that maybe he’d learn that word someday. He smiled really big at me, so I sketched a dog and wrote ‘DOG’ next to it. He was very intrigued so I kept drawing for him throughout the class and tried to get him to follow along with the teacher when I could.

Well, today when I went to class, the first thing I noticed was how a few of them were drawing in there notebooks, looking up at me, smiling and pointing at what they were drawing. Though I fear I’ve encouraged them not to pay attention in class, I also feel that I’m cultivating their creativity.
