For this first month, my team (Gozo is our name in case you are keeping track of us online) and I are staying in the city of Manila in a hostel. We are partnering with another team this month so we are all staying in one dormstyle room here. The place is awesome. We have AC in the room and a kitchen to cook our own meals. Since we just got here today, I only got a glimpse of the ministry we will be working with. We went to the church, which is literally in the middle of a dump which is also a community of people. I have seen slums before but I have never seen anything like this…the water in the streets in muddy and stagnant and there are piles of trash everywhere. The chuch is like a safe haven from the filth. The children are precious and beautiful and everyone is so friendly.
Our contact here is a married couple who started the church 3 years ago. They are young and the man is Filipino an his wife is Scottish. They seem like an amazing couple with a heart for the people here and the Lord’s will. I am really excited to get to know them and their ministry over the next month.
On a lighter note, we just found out that John Mayer is coming to Manila at the beginning of October…so I am VERY excited. Pray that works out for us 🙂
