Guat's up!? The past several days my team has been traveling from Honduras to Guatemala and receiving training from our unsung heroes team(Annie Duplechain and Kelsey Shreve).
If you're wondering why I haven't shared what ministry we are working with this month it is because we don't have one! That is intentional. What will we be doing, you ask? My team and I are considered the "unsung heroes" this month and are on the mission of finding as many contacts as we can in Guatemala for future world race teams to serve. It is very spontaneous and so exciting!! We are responsible for our food, lodging, transportation, and connecting with ministries.
During our last week in Talanga, we spent an hour in prayer just listening to what The Lord was telling each of us for the following month about our team. God gave me a vision for our team about how our ministry will not look like what we think it will. Unsung hero month isn't about finding contacts and retrieving a bunch of information. It is a month to meet people, minister freely all around the city, and build relationships. The contacts and anything else we need will come.
Our unsung hero month actually started unofficially in Honduras during one of our off days in the Valley of Angels. We hung out with Kayla's team at a new coffee shop. I started talking to, Brian, who works there. He was real down to earth and I asked if he was a believer in Jesus Christ. Turns out he was, we got to talking and before you know it we had a potential host for future racers. It was so encouraging for me to see God move in that way! Finding our ministry contacts starts with the people we encounter.
Ministry should be organic. It should be less about the work and more about following the Spirit of God. Less about statistics and more about relationships that seek to put others needs before yours. I am so excited for this month and cannot wait to share with you all that The Lord accomplishes!
