Part 3: Finding Similarities in a small west Texas town and a small city  in Thailand

Who would guess half a world away I would find my hometown doppelgänger. Muleshoe, Tx is in Thailand. This month we are staying in Selaphum, Thailand and some of the similarities are uncanny:

– Our team often rides in the back of a pickup truck, we can sit on the edge or stand if we are in the farm truck
– Our host family has a farm truck
– Most people know our host mother, Mama
– on Sundays, we drive about 30 minutes (in the back of the truck) for a Big C and mall ( big c is kinda like Walmart )
– We go to 7-11 almost everyday (not the same as Allsups or Sonic, but ok)
– There is the same small town feel here, we are welcome and people wave
– We literally drove all over town the other night looking for postcards and it took us maybe 20 minutes (hint people of Muleshoe: postcards should be readily available at most stores)
– We went to the park for an afternoon
– We could walk around town if needed

I didn’t always love Muleshoe when I was growing up. Looking back now, there are several things I miss, mostly the people. People make the town. My Granddad always says, “remember who you are and where you came from.” I will always remember my hometown of Muleshoe, enough to find it in the middle of Thailand. Muleshoe was and still is a great place and I am thankful it helped shape me into the person I am. I am thankful for my time in Selaphum and how to has also shaped me. Our hosts here made us feel like family and that we had a home here.
