Lubbock in My Rearview Mirror

This song by Mac Davis has been a dream of mine since Kelley Dunn Finley played it for me 5 or so years ago on our way to/from Speech Judging.

I have always wanted out of West Texas, I have my reasons, everyone does. Well, this week I did see Lubbock in MY rear view mirror. I saw Plainview and Muleshoe in my rearview mirror as well. It was a lot harder than I thought. Hard to say ‘see ya later’ to friends and family, each who have a special place in my heart. There were also some I didn’t get to see.

I know going on the World Race is the right thing in my life at this time, but I never knew how hard it would be to leave my friends and family. I have very special memories with everyone and I know in a year we will all be in totally different places in life, physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Will we be able to re-connect? I hope so. I know I will miss out on a lot of stuff this year, weddings, births, engagements, football games, baseball games, the new Hunger Games movie, other movies, hanging out, etc. My wish is that we all enjoy this year as it is/comes, and I know we will have tons of stories to catch up on when I return. Good thing I don’t have a job, so I have plenty of time to catch up ;).

I just want you all to know that I love you very much and I am thankful for everyone in my life.

The best part about the song is the end:

I guess happiness was Lubbock, Texas
In my rear view mirror
But now happiness is Lubbock, Texas
Growing nearer and dearer
And the vision is getting clearer
In my dreams

And I think I finally know
Just what it means
And when I die you can bury me
In Lubbock, Texas, in my jeans
