This morning I joined the freshmen and sophomore girls Sunday school class – thanks for letting me visit! Today the lesson was on Salt and Light: how to influence the world around you, illuminate the world around your, and point people to God through your example. It was great to hear their ideas on how to be lights for others and that God has us in a certain place at certain times, there are no accidents.

I have become especially fond of Matthew 5: 14-16 recently and I want you to know why:
I was emailing some friends one day after I had decided to go on the World Race and trying to find a verse especially for me. I was thinking the ‘light of the world’ (they thought I needed a verse to show more action.) We never really decided something, but I had to start fundraising and I decided to start selling shirts through Fund the Nations <- if you ever need shirts to raise money for missions, they are AWESOME. I do not know these people at all, have never met them and probably never will, but I emailed to check out how the t-shirt fundraiser worked. The first thing they wanted to know was why I was raising money. I told them I had been accepted to the World Race and would leave in July. That is it, nothing more. When they sent a design to me it read: The LIGHT of the World Race over a map of the world. Whoa! Crazy, huh. These people had no clue I had discussed the light with others, and now I am selling shirts! Y’all, I knew God was talking to me and I had finally chosen the path I was supposed to be on.
Today’s Sunday school lesson was a great reminder. Often, we are overcome with darkness; doubt, anxiety, sin, etc. and we need a light to find our way back. I know I have had lots of anxiety lately, sometimes it is overwhelming and I literally have to tell myself to breathe and that is will all work out. Usually I feel anxiety about raising the money for the trip, leaving my family, job, security – you can see how this just spirals down… When moments like this happen, I get onto theworldrace.org and read blogs from people who are on the race right now. I see the glory they are brining to the Kingdom and how they are a light for others, abroad and here.
While my light may flicker from time to time and it feels like the darkness will overwhelm, I am thankful to know that I have Christ as my Savior and another light will come and help mine shine brighter.
If you would like a t-shirt I do have some and can always order more, they are $20 and sizes are from Youth Medium to Adult 3X.

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before me, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
