I don’t know a good reason for why it’s taken me so long to write about Nepal. It was a truly incredible month. It’s hard when you get towards the end of the race and you start to realize that you call so many months incredible, but they are just so good. It’s such a blessing to be able to say that about so many of the countries I’ve been to.
I went into Nepal not too excited. We were the Unsung Heroes team. If you don’t remember from Nicaragua, UH team is in charge of finding new contacts for AIM to potentially partner with in the future. You don’t have a home. You don’t have contacts. You move a lot. It’s hard.
EXCEPT WHEN ITS NOT HARD, AND YOU HAVE AN AWESOME MONTH. God blessed our team. When we got to Nepal the regional director for UH in that area of the world that works for AIM was actually in Nepal, and we got to meet with him. Shout out to Chris. The team that had UH in Nepal the month before us completely rocked it and turned in so many awesome contacts that Chris told us to just really connect with the body of Christ in Kathmandu. We got lucky enough to get hooked in with some great people our first week. God gave us an unofficial contact. He gave us a home at a Buddhist meditation center- bringing the light, you know. So we went to an awesome prayer meeting one day which was great and we met some people. We got some phone numbers and continued to follow up with people that the previous team had found.
Thank Jesus for Gethsemane Prayer House- Clem and Rahul. I think they were a little nervous about us at first, but we blew them away with our fire and awesomeness, praise God. Clem and the teams he works with go out on Friday nights in Tamel to do outreach on the street. Our home was in Tamel so we joined them the first Friday we were there. We were just about to pray and ask The Lord where he wanted to take us when a woman and her son came up asking if we wanted henna. We had already made friends with their cousin Ambika who also does henna on the streets. We asked her if we could pray for them, and she said yes. As we prayed, she just began to feel the presence of The Lord. She asked if we were doing witchcraft on her. “What is this feeling?! What are you doing to me?!” Her son kept saying “she is really scared.” We quickly calmed her down and got to share the Gospel with her. As we spoke, I noticed that her hands were shiny with oil. We asked her if she had oil on her hands before, and she said no. Then she took her shoes off, and her feet left foot prints in the sidewalk from all the oil on them. It was insane. And it wasn’t sweat- the Holy Spirit was anointing her right then and there. Clem explained that God anoints his people and that he can do it with oil and just explained God’s power. By this point, she is on fire and so excited about Jesus. She tells us her dad is in terrible pain from his back and that he needs healing. He had been crying and couldn’t get up he was in so much pain. So we called him. We found out he was in India- God doesn’t have prayer borders. We prayed over the phone for healing, and her dad was healed. He starts to freak out too! Right then she and her son both accept Jesus as their savior. Raj, her son, tells me he needs prayer because other kids pick on him and fight him and hurt him. As I prayed, he was stilled and seriously didn’t move for like a minute after I finished. I thought something was wrong. Finally, he snaps out of it and tells me he felt so much strength enter him and a powerful presence among him. Then their other cousin (another henna girl) brings us three Chinese people who needed prayer. So we pray for them, and they start feeling the Holy Spirit. Raj and his mom prayed with us. This one guy was so pumped. He was excited for something new in his life. He said he wanted something like this. He wanted to know more about Jesus. But, his friends unfortunately hurried him away because they had dinner reservations. But, it was awesome to watch seeds be planted on fertile soil. We invited Raj and his mom to church the next day. I never could pronounce her name so she gets to be called RM for Raj’s mom.
We went to an awesome church called Kathmandu International Christian Church. It was great to see how many missionaries were going hard for God in Nepal. It’s so clear that God has plans in Nepal, and he wants revival there. That night we went to prayer and soaking at Gethsemane. Clem leads it and has an amazing voice and incredible guitar and piano skills. We stayed for over 3 hours just worshipping God. He was speaking to each of us individually and on such a personal level. When they asked people to share some testimonies from the week, Rahul told us that RM had come to church that morning and told him that she had had dreams of Jesus and his crucifixion! How awesome!
I’m realizing that those great stories just from the first week make a pretty significant blog so I will do this in 2. Some other fun minor details about Nepal include the fact that it was a freeze shock for our bodies that have been used to hot, hot weather the whole race. The lowest it got was probably in the high 40s, and I was dying. But, because of that I got to buy some awesome new clothes including a few yak wool scares.
