Hola, from San Andrés!

Here is a quick update on what my life has looked like in Colombia (including pictures)

My team and I have been here since January 12th.

*My team is made up of the people that I do daily life with. There are seven of us and we are an all-girl team. My Squad (54 people) are the ones going to the same country, but sometimes different city or ministry, as me. Teams will change. The squad will not.

We are living upstairs at a small church called Centro de Familia de Albanza which means “Center of Family Worship”

We are hosted by, and have found deep friendship with, a very endearing family that runs the church. However, they do not speak english.

So my team has a translator named Mary…. she is one of the most joyful and Christ filled women I have ever met. Mary quickly became a part of our “team”, and has immensely blessed us with her friendship.

San Andrés (where we live) is an island in the Caribbean that measures just about 10 square miles. We could walk the entire island in less than a day if we wanted to! People on the island reference the beachfront as the “sea of seven colors”, and they are not wrong. The water here is beautiful; as is the island. This place is a hidden gem!

Tourism aside, the local youth have lost their identity and are in dire need of a Savior. We spend most of our time with the youth or evangelizing here.

Picture of evangelism on the beach. Signs read “free hugs” “Jesus loves you”, and an invitation to the “Mega Party”

“Mega Party” was an event we held at the church for local youth, and God did big things because around 50 kids showed up!

Being on an island, we have had to learn how to adapt to “island time”, which means we spend quite a bit of time in limbo. Plans change quite frequently here. People are late. Nothing is set in stone.

So when we are not doing ministry or hanging out with kids at the church, we typically head to our favorite coffee & ice cream shop. We have befriended the staff at both places, despite our broken Spanish. (:

Ministry has looked different every day here, but God has used each day for His own purpose and it has been a beautiful experience.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10

San Andrés, month one, has been our first fruits… we cannot wait to give it away.
