Hi Everyone!

Well, I know this blog is coming a little late, but as I mentioned earlier, I was unable to blog while we were in Malawi. But… I still wanted to fill you guys in on what our Christmas looked like this year. Although we were all homesick, we were still able to have a good Christmas. We drew names for Secret Santa a week before Christmas, and on Christmas Eve we all left our gifts out. We may not have had a tree, but we we made do, as you can see…

We celebrated Christmas Eve by watching “Elf” together, and then having a 11 PM Christmas Eve service in our living room. We read the Christmas story and sang Christmas carols. We didn’t have any candles, so it had to be a headlamp lit service. =)

On Christmas morning, we all got up and opened our Secret Santa gifts. We had a $10 limit, but that didn’t stop us from getting some really amazing Christmas gifts!

It turned out that Matt and I had drawn each other for Secret Santa!

We were also able to bless Pastor Gamma’s family with mosquito nets for their home.

After opening our gifts, we went to church to celebrate Christmas with Pastor Gama’s congregation. When we first arrived in Malawi, I asked Pastor Gama if they had any special Christmas traditions. He said, “We will go to church and worship the Lord.” And that is what we did. Although it may not have been a normal Christmas, and we definitely all missed our families back home, it was a great reminder of what Christmas is really all about. I know it is a Christmas I will always remember!

We made this Christmas video before Christmas, but after four failed attempts to upload it in Malawi, I decided it wasn’t meant to be. But I still wanted to post it, so I hope you will enjoy it now. So I wish you all a very (late) Merry Malawian Christmas!!
