Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you know that I have made it to Uganda safe and sound!
In Jinja we stayed at a place called Adrift Adventures. It was SO nice, I seriously thought we had
somehow ended up at a resort in the US.
Our whole squad camped there and while there we had the option of
white-water rafting the Nile/bungee jumping or doing both. I decided to only
raft the Nile, which was unbelievable.
Seriously, the area around the Nile is absolutely gorgeous. I felt like
we were on a movie set, with how beautiful and surreal everything was.
After a long travel day, we were welcomed into the home of Pastor Solomon, his beautiful wife Lilli-Ann and their absolutely precious baby girl, Sufficient Grace. They have been so selfless and serving with the way they have welcomed us in and it has been so much fun getting to know them.
We are also roughing it a tad more this month, as we don’t
have power, ha. And our showers are outside in a hut 🙂 But I love it. Seriously, I LOVE it. I love not showering; I love waking up in a
beautiful, rural African paradise; I love praying by “torch (aka our
headlamps) at night; I love it all. I really enjoy being disconnected from technology. I feel like when it’s available it’s so easy
to get sucked up in it, but when it’s not easily accessible, it’s just so
freeing. My mind is so much more free to
be present here. Don’t get me wrong- I
love and so desire to be within everyone’s lives at home, and I AM praying for
and missing you all. But this season
is a beautiful time to be present, just me and Jesus, right where I am at.
I absolutely love Uganda.
It’s funny because where we live basically turns into a swamp at
night. We can hear frogs and crickets
all around the house. I actually really
like it. It lulls me to sleep 🙂 Another funny thing
about where we live is that we are basically on a reality television show. We may as well be on the Amazing Race. There are CONSTANTLY people walking past the
house, stopping and staring at us. For
long periods of time. Then, there are
people peering in the living room windows.
Then there are the neighbors who watch us brush our teeth at night from
over their hedge. We just see 3-4 heads
every night as we are outside, haha. I
truly don’t mind it, it makes me laugh.
Everyone is extremely friendly, and it’s not in a creepy manner that all
this creeping is done in, people are just really curious to see the mzungus and
how we live.
Our ministry this month is going to consist of a whole bunch of ministry. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays we will be doing crusades in local villages. In the
mornings we will be going into schools and preaching. On Sundays we will be preaching in the
morning and nights. During the week we
will be doing door to door evangelism in the mornings and school ministry at
nights. So basically, we will be
preaching nonstop. I am excited, a
little nervous, but I’m ready to be challenged and to grow. Prayers for good health as well as energy
would be so appreciated.
I definitely will be writing more updates soon, as they come and as internet is available.
I love and miss you all!
