I will be turning 30 in my first month on The World Race, in Africa. Things are going to get tough. I might need this reminder one day.

Dear 30 Year Old Kelli,

It’s crazy to think where life has brought you. Who would have ever thought that your 30th year of life would be spent traveling the world, spreading God’s love, and finally listening to your true calling in this adventure of life?!? You always thought you would be married, with kids, living in the mountains of Colorado on your 30th birthday. Boy, did God have different plans, a perfect plan.

You have spent years and years running from God, but He knew you were going to be coming back to Him. He never stopped loving you and never stopped calling you His child. He knew that this was the path you would end up on. Thank you for finally listening to Him.

This year is going to be a tough, but a beautiful one. A year of triumphs, hardships, love, sorrow, good Thai street food, rice and beans and more rice and beans, adventure, community-living, quiet time, learning to live in the moment, but most of all a year of growing closer to God. Embrace every moment. Take in every smile. Love on orphans. Be kind. Show love everywhere you go and never forget why you signed up in the first place, to grow God’s Kingdom.

Saying goodbye to those you love was hard, but remember it will all be worth it. You are stronger than you think and you have so many people praying for you. You will be okay. Actually, you will be more than okay. God knows exactly what you need, so just ask Him when you feel lost. Trust and have faith. That’s all you have to do.

Saying goodbye to your big, comfy bed was really hard, but remember it will be worth it. The things that you are missing now will just be things when you get back. Collect memories. Remember all the faces. Embrace the free gift of love. You won’t think about your bed when you see a child sleeping on cardboard, your heart will never be the same.

You have no idea what God has in store for you this year. Even though that is terrifying and exciting, God is writing the perfect story for you. Learn to let go and let God. Be still and listen. Your future is in His hands, trust Him. I love you now, but just wait until you become the woman God wants you to be. You are on the right path. Thank you for forever changing my life.

Love,
29 Year Old Kelli

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
