We have come face to face with the needs of the women here in Maai Mahiu. We know firsthand of their strength as single mothers, holding their families together. We have encountered their wisdom as they budget their little income between basic needs, school fees, medical bills and savings. We have seen their courage as widows, rebuilding their lives.

God has been setting a plan in motion to start empowering the women of Maai Mahiu. He has woven us together with eight ladies from the area with whom we will be starting a new program.

Some of these women already have their dreams in motion and just need a little boost. For others this will be their first step to creating a better life for themselves and for their families. We want to walk alongside them to make their dreams a reality.

Through 61Project women’s ministry, our goal is to spiritually and economically empower vulnerable women by sharing God’s love and helping them grow in faith, while equipping them with vocational, artisan and business skills, giving them an opportunity to create sustainable livelihood.

This looks like training women to make banana leaf products like journals and nativity sets that we will sell in local markets and abroad. This also looks like having set times throughout the week to discuss the Bible, discipleship, and to grow in our walk with Jesus. Additionally, this looks like having set times to discuss banking, small-business startup and other financial and life skills as well.

God willing, we would like to start the last week of April. We will be posting a newsletter tomorrow with more information and how you can get involved as well as other blogs throughout the week. Stay tuned for more and please be praying for us!
