So many people ask me, “what exactly are you doing in
Gainesville working with AIM?” Well, here’s a quick run-down of the past couple
of weeks since we started working on this WR Kenya Initiative!
WARNING: This
blog is pretty much simply information about what our team has been up to since
we started at AIM. I apologize if it is not super stimulating, but for those of
you who are interested in the specifics, keep reading!
Week 1: Hello, Apprenticeship! We started working at AIM’s
office in Gainesville, GA. We then set up a timeline for the next three weeks. The first week we brainstormed other
non-profits, what projects are working in Kenya relating to community
redevelopment, etc.
Week 2: From this research, we compiled a list of 100 ideas. These ideas ranged anywhere
from different employment opportunities to raising chickens or rabbits. From
our 100 ideas we selected six areas of
development that we want to focus on: children, water and sanitation,
education, food, employment, and spiritual development. During this week, we
also created a yearly budget for our
individual support-raising for when we move to Kenya.
Week 3: CHART: This
week was CRAZY busy! We used the white boards in the office to generate
charts
for each of the above six areas. For each area, we divided the chart into four
sections: Pre-Kenya, Crisis (1 – 6 months), Development (6 months –
1 year), and Sustainability (1-2 years). Within each area, we determined
specific projects and a budget for each area, as well as a prospective overall
budget for the year. (This picture shows
what we do a lot of the days of the weekJ)
We finished the chart and started to generate a list of donors to start our
support campaign to raise money for the projects! We also started delving into
the media portion of everything and
the design of our website, business cards, all of that fun stuff! 🙂
Support Raising: I need to raise about $2,000 more for this
apprenticeship. I am also looking for monthly supporters for now and for the
future for after the apprenticeship when our team moves to Kenya full-time. Any
amount and partnership is much appreciated.
