“And the King will answer them, truly, I say to you, as you did to one of the least of my brothers you did it to me.” Matthew 25:40
“In fact, when we give ourselves with all our hearts to the poor, it is Christ whom we are serving in their disfigured faces. For He Himself said, ‘You did it for me.” Mother Theresa
Wow. I know this verse gets thrown around a lot, but God has been opening my spirit, heart, and mind to receiving more of its Truth. As I mentioned in a previous post, God has been preparing me to commit my life to serving Him by serving the poor. As He empties me of myself, He replaces my flesh with His heart and mind for the poor.
I do not know why the Truth of these verses has hit me more now, but I am so thankful. As the above passage and quote state, when I serve the poor, I serve my Savior. I do it to Him.
I encourage you to ask the Lord who the “least of these” are around you and to commit to serving them because when you serve them, you serve Jesus. These verses are not reserved for those in full time ministry alone. In these verses, God says that we will be judged for how we served the poor. ALL OF US.
Acts of compassion and service do not save us. We are saved by grace through faith and are clothed with Christ’s righteousness. As a result, we serve Christ by serving others out of our debt of gratitude to Him.
So, I will be serving “the least of these” and specifically, the Maai Mahiu Internally Displaced People camp in Kenya, Camp Vision. You can read more about God’s vision for these people that He has given to my teammates, Logan Pace, Jenna Ghizas, Liz Martin and I at our website,
http://campvision.weebly.com/.
God’s vision is one of reaching these people with the gospel, one of restoration and rebuilding of their individual lives and their community, a vision of provision and supply…
I want to thank again all who prayerfully and financially supported my trip to Kenya. I absolutely could not have gone without you, and I would not be led toward this vision without you. Know that God has used you to bring His Kingdom to earth and will continue to do so through your willingness to give. Please pray for unity, for clarity and direction, and for continued faith and perseverance of our group, knowing whom we serve.
My three teammates and I have committed to this six-month apprenticeship with AIM, and in October we will be moving to Gainesville, GA, where the AIM office is located. Under the AIM umbrella we will be guided and helped with contacts, fundraising, resources, guidance, etc.
I have to raise $10,000 by late April, with $3,000 in my account by late October. If you feel led to support me with a one-time or monthly donation, please click on the Support Me! tab on the left, click on staff support, and type in my name. This vision and dream are God’s, and I know He will provide. It will be a road of trust, perseverance, and a much bigger faith than I’ve had, but I’m so excited to wait on the Lord and trust His provision.
Please visit our website or contact me with any questions at all! Thank you so very much. 🙂
