(I would like you to know that right at this moment I am
sitting on sand under an umbrella. To my
left is a Mojito, and in front of me is my laptop. In my right hand is a CAO cigar and I occasionally
look up to see the eight foot waves that the wonderful town of Huancocha, Peru offers. Between the brick-making and children’s home-building, we have one off-day a
week, and I can safely say that I love them.)
I don’t remember a dead fish, but I have been overwhelmed by
the amount of support I’ve received since I decided to go on the World
Race.
$9,840.90
I have raised almost $10,000. Can I say that one more time? Thanks.
I have raised almost $10,000. I
wish I could hop in the Delorean and go back 6 months to when I began to think
about financing for my trip.
I think it would have gone something like this…
Future me: ‘What up KG, I just want you to know that by the
end of March, God will have blessed you with almost $10,000 for your trip.’
6 month ago me: ‘What.
Did you just say that God will have blessed me with almost $10,000 by
the end of March?’
Future me: ‘Yes, yes I did.’
6 month ago me: ‘That’s amazing. I’m stunned.
That’s so much money. Can I say
that one more time?’
Future me: ‘You sure can, old KG.’
6 month ago me: ‘Thanks.
$10,000 is SO MUCH MONEY.’
Future me: ‘It really is. You are truly blessed. And by you I mean we.’
6 month ago me: ‘Wait, did you just get a chance to ride in
Doc Brown’s Delorean and you decided to go only 6 months back? What is wrong with you? How about the Wild West, or Medieval times,
or go say hey to Jesus? Crap, KG.
Future me: ‘I was hoping you didn’t notice… I really didn’t
think this one through. Plus, I’m out of
plutonium.
6 month ago me: ‘That’s a bummer. You probably need to be more responsible. I don’t have extra
plutonium, but I do have an extra cigar.
Shall we?’
Future me: ‘We certainly shall. Great decision, after all.’
One of the best parts of the crazy support I’ve received is
all the different ways it’s come in. Whether
it was $500 or $10, every donation has come from the heart. A lot has been from family – I’m so thankful
to have supportive parents – and my wonderful grandparents, and a lot of
support has come from people I’ve never even met. A lot
has come from my friends, who, by the way, are in their mid-twenties-and-not-exactly-super-wealthy-yet-incredibally-supportive.
I have to raise $14,300 for the World Race. There have been interesting and introspective
donations, donations that have brought me to tears, and donations that have
humbled me. However, there is still one
donation that sticks out from the rest.
About a month ago, I received a $10 donation from a guy I used
to know in high school. I had not spoken
to him since probably junior year, and, let’s just be honest, we weren’t the
biggest fans of each other. So, the donation had made me quite curious.
But it all made sense the next day when I received a
Facebook message from him. It read:
‘Sorry for putting a dead fish in your mailbox about a
decade ago. This donation should cover
it. Best of luck!
Well, glad we figured that one out.
I still need $150 by April 1st, and $14,300 by July. Thank you so much for those that have supported me so far!
My friend and brother, Lamar Anderson, still needs around
$3,000 by the beginning of next month.
Read his story here.
But, if you don’t feel like it, here’s a little bit about
him. He went to Iraq in 2003 and served our nation for 3 tours. As the saying goes, ‘there
are no atheists in a foxhole.’ He gave his life to Christ soon after returning
home. He joined the Race a couple years
later, and now I’ve had the privilege for 3 months to travel with a man of God
that has one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen. For the lost, and the hurt, and the broken, I have seen him bring hope and change lives.
Please prayerfully consider supporting him and keeping him on the World Race. Support him here.
We’re heading to Lima, Peru, tomorrow. After two days there, pending our finances, it’s off to Nicaragua! New blogs coming soon about my time in Peru.
