This is post 2 of the series I started yesterday. 

 

Jesus tells the story of a certain man who prepared a great banquet and invited a lot of guests but none of them came. The man sent his servant out to bring them to the banquet but each of them sent the servant back with an excuse. The man sent his servant back out to invite the people on the street who were poor, or blind, or lame, or cripple to his feast. Not a single seat was left for any of his guests.

In this parable, the man is God and the servant is Jesus. Jesus is inviting each one of us to a banquet where we can be filled up with him. So often, we miss out on the opportunity to sit with God for the very same reason the guests in the parable missed out on the opportunity.

The first guest the servant comes to sends his this servant back with this excuse, “I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.” (Luke 14:18a). At first glance, this seems pretty reasonable . . .
