As I was listening to music this afternoon on the way home from our last day of ministry I was inspired by it. The song is called, “Slumber” by Needtobreathe. It talks about how we should keep our eyes open to all that is out there. It made me think a lot about this year and all that I have had the opportunity to see in all the countries that I have visited so far. If you have never been overseas before I definitely recommend it. There is a whole other world out there that most have never seen and it can change your life. I know that it has changed mine and how I view things now. I feel like so many Americans are so closed minded to the other side of the world. We are usually too busy to think about others’ needs and to just go see the world. We tend to put God in a box and only expect little out of him instead of expecting great things. Our God is a big God and all that he asks is that we come to him expecting him to do what we know that he can do and not doubting him. The awesome thing is that because we have Christ in our hearts, we also have the power and the authority of Christ within us. (Matthew 28:18-20) Every time that I have expected big things out of God on this race he has pulled through and usually gone above and beyond my expectations. The song starts off talking about how lazy mornings tend to multiply while glory is waiting outside our window. It also talks about how people work and get paid just enough to get by while there is such a bigger invitation to just open your eyes up to what you could have in this life. It is all so true! A lot of people work 9-5 jobs that they hate just so they can pay their bills. I know it is hard to find work these days but, I encourage you to do what you love, do whatever God has called you to do in this life. I know that God has a calling on each of our lives and we all should be fulfilling those callings. When I decided to go on the race, I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I did it because I knew the Lord was calling me to it. It hasn’t been easy at all but it has been so worth it. I have never felt closer or more intimate with God than I do now. I am completely free and completely in love with Christ! Christ has rocked my world! There was a sermon I was listening to earlier this week that talked about how faith should be spelled RISK. Faith is all about taking risks and just trusting God. (Hebrews 11:1) I encourage you to take risk, jump in the water and see what happens. Dance like you want to, sing like you used to, like no one is watching you. Ask the Lord what he has called to do and don’t be afraid to do it. Don’t settle for the crumbs on the table, just getting by with life. Take the invitation and open up your eyes. Don’t put our amazing God in a box. Tear that box down!! Open up your eyes to the rest of the world, outside your window, outside the church walls.
“Therefore it is said, ‘Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light’ … Do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (Ephesians 5:14 & 17)
Here is the song that inspired all of this! Hope you enjoy it!
