And so it has begun… this wonderful beautiful journey.

We are currently in Grand Goave, Haiti. It is a small town about an hour and a half outside of Port-au-Prince. We are working with Mission of Hope run by a Haitian Pastor who is married to an American woman who are serving there community in many different ways. They have church, they run two schools, they have an orphanage and work with many other organizations that I can’t keep track of.

We are helping build temporary housing with Samaritan’s Purse. They have shipped down all the supplies to build these tarp houses. The houses are wood frames, tin roofs, and tarps for walls. We have been walking around to all the houses that have already been put together and nailing up the tarps. Our contact Pastor Lex has been encouraging us to take lots of breaks and to have one person always taking pictures. Which works out well for us because we only have 3 hammers and 8 people, so the rest of us usually goof around with the crowds of children that gather around when we show up. No matter if we are working near, walking by or driving by the constant shouts of “hey you, you, you ” are ringing all around. We usually know that means that there are some kids around that would like to play.

We usually work the mornings and take a long break for lunch at the school/orphanage where we play with the kids there, work some more then go home to a delicious dinner at our beachside compound. Dinner usually consists of our favorite fresh passion fruit/citron(similar to a lime or lemon) juice…. Yumm! We have made the juice ourselves a couple of nights, so my hope is that I will someday be able to replicate it back home. I love my team and we have been having so much fun so far, we have started plenty of games to keep us entertained… I may have started the bandana whipping game way to early in the year… I have loads of welts on my arms and legs haha, oops!

We are pretty far from internet and have a very limited amount of time to spend on it, and electricity comes from a generator that comes to the beach every couple days, but being near the ocean after a long day in the Haitian sun is worth it! We aren’t able to upload any pictures or video here, but don’t worry I have plenty of pictures of beautiful children to share when I get a chance! I have some many stories I want to tell about where we are and what we have experienced, but they will have to wait until another day of internet access, or perhaps when I am able to show better through pictures. Love you all so much. Thanks for all you prayers and support!
