To my Beautiful Mom,
I am beyond blessed to be your daughter
I remember being really little and being pulled in the wagon to pick Phil up off the bus
…Sitting in the van while we waited for the bus and you doing a devotion with us
…Going to your softball games and playing on the slide and swing at the end of the field
…Thinking I was special because my mom was the cubbies teacher
I remember playing hand and foot with you… even though I don’t know how to play anymore
…Collaging those giant popcorn containers
…Playing with your old barbies and loving the overalls your grandma made for them
…Listening to you play that one song on the piano and wishing I could play it
I remember long drives to Awana camp and hearing your stories from there
…You and dad coming to all of my games, even the ones I didn’t play in
…You delivering baby goats in the middle of the night
…All night walking at relay for life together
I remember spending the day with you visiting SIUE
…Graduating from Lake Land with you
…Eating at Cheddar’s with you when the waitress stopped to pray with us
…Buying you a billion things in Kenya because I constantly found things I knew you would like
I remember you coming to my half marathons, even in the freezing cold
…Running your first half with you
…You addressing every single one of my support letter envelopes
…Late night Criminal Minds when we should have been in bed
Thank you for always believing in me
Thank you for encouraging me to go where the Lord leads me
God gave me your heart for people
The way you love people and truly care for them
God gave me that piece of you
I would not be where I am or the person I am today if I didn’t have you in my life
I remember telling you that I wanted to come on this crazy trip
And your response being total support
I remember going to training camp and realizing how blessed I was to have supportive parents
This Mother’s Day, I may be across the world in Kenya
But, know that I am thinking of you today
And thanking God for my mom
