Oh my goodness! Being dedicated to mission preparation amidst all of life (and graduation) is hard! It’s becoming increasingly hard to think about the Race as I’m nearing graduation and the related stress is building. Six months seems so incredibly far away. It’s amazing to see how God works, and how he has been far more consistent than I in this endeavor. Even when it seems as though I am least dedicated, God is still providing. I now have about half of my funding amount committed! Yay!!
Also, I would like to share a little bit about my Spring Break.
A group of us from Western’s His House Christian Fellowship hopped in a van and headed south for a week of…something, which involved lots of places, and many opportunities to do mission work and see what God is doing in other parts of the country.
We headed to Dallas where we hopped in the bus of a mission called Metro Relief. This bus took us directly to the homeless, drug dealers, and prostitutes, where we opened up shop and gave out food, toiletries, and the gospel.
We planned to spend an evening sightseeing in San Antonio, and ended up helping a woman empty out her recently closed business.
We went to New Orleans where we helped out with Operation Nehemiah, which is still helping families after Katrina (we built lots of bunk-beds). There we experienced Mardi Gras first hand (a bit of the good and the bad), for a new perspective of what really goes on during this notorious holiday. For one thing, there is family friendly fun!
We then went to Montgomery, Alabama, for a look at the Civil Rights Movement. Finally, we spent some time with Team Expansion in Kentucky, which sends church planters out to unreached areas.
This was a very brief summary, but the week was so incredible. Throughout our time it was so clear to see God’s heart for everyone, and how we are meant to share that. I was especially challenged by the people at Team Expansion to have a better perspective on how my life is God’s (can we be told this enough?), as well as having some discussions on what to expect over the next year (will I ever feel ready?).
Also, I got to share a little of my heart for missions with the group. I shared something that I am experiencing right now, writing this. I find it difficult to even begin discussing how God is working in my life and heart, how I see Him working in the world, and how there is such a need. How can I put this all into words? How can anyone say everything? You can only get up and go.
