Howdy!
My name is Kayla Krynski, though I suppose you know that since you are here on my blog. Welcome!
I am currently a twenty one year old recent graduate from the University of North Texas earning degrees in English Literature and History as of May 2016. Really, my degrees mean I like to read, write, and study how we all shape and share this Earth in the past and present.
At University, I was also a member of Sigma Alpha, a Christian sorority. These ladies were and are my absolute best friends. We laugh together, carry one another’s burdens, and seriously have the most insane amounts of ridiculous fun.
Look at my gorgeous sisters! I have been beyond blessed by this community! I actually first learned about The World Race through a Sigma alumni.
I’m the youngest of three kids born to my wonderful mother and father. These two inspire me so much and believe in my dreams more than I even do sometimes. I am so blessed by my parents I honestly cannot find the words sometimes.
My other siblings are my two older brothers, Blake and Derek, who taught me how to be a rough and tough girl when I was younger. They both always played the protective older brother role extremely well. My middle brother, Blake, is married to a wonderful woman of God, Rachel, and the two of them had their first child, Caroline, in December 2015. We are all so excited to rejoice in this time of new life in adding another soul to our family!
And while not perfect, our family tries our very best to be loving. God deeply blessed me with them because I don’t think everyone’s family would be all on board for the “baby girl” to be traveling all over the world.
Mentioning travel, I’ve been traveling most all of my life. As a kid, my family took trips to Mexico (the first time for vacation in Cancun, the second time for missions in Pueblo), Belize, and St. Croix. Then, when I was sixteen, my and my close friend went together to spend a summer in England with the English side of her family.
We were such babies! That first trip to Europe lit something in me. Since then, I’ve been to China, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Travel taught me what it is to be human and the fundamental fact that despite all the things we allow to divide us, we are all God’s beloved people. None of these trips, however, have been directly for missions.
I was praying this summer at the Berliner Dom Cathedral in Berlin, Germany when the Lord showed up in a big, big way. My heart heavy for Syria and our fellow Christians in the Middle East, I sat in this opulent, gold gilded, hundreds of years old church and I fought back angry tears. I asked The Lord why some parts of the church face horrific persecution while other parts sit surrounded by gold. I thought about how the dismantlement of this church could probably pay for the needs of thousands of churches in poverty. All I could do was angrily ask why?
He didn’t answer me exactly. He came to me, instead, sat in the pew next to me, put a finger over his lips and gently told me to shh. He took my hand, he bowed his head, and he prayed. I listened, and closed my eyes too.
The organ began playing, calling the faithful to noon prayer, and I opened my eyes with a new perspective. I opened my eyes with the knowledge that while the church is sometimes broken, while inequalities exist, while Christians will suffer, sometimes I just need to shh, trust enough to take The Lord’s hand, and pray. But as I stood with the congregation and prayed The Lord’s Prayer in German, my spirit knew something Big was coming.
A month later, I heard about The World Race for the first time, and I knew this was it.
And now, this sometimes awkward, frizzy haired, book loving, poetry writing, daughter of Christ is heading out for the first time to match my heartbeat for the world with His.
If you want to know more about me or my story, feel free to contact me! I love people and I would absolutely love talking to any of you. I’d appreciate you joining me on this journey by following my blog, supporting me financially, and, above all else, supporting me in prayer!
