Today it rained in San Pedro. All day it sprinkled with the
occasional down pour. We ate at Nick’s Place again and enjoyed the Guatemalan
version of some pepperoni and ham pizzas. When we left to go meet team Hebron
it started pouring so we had to run zigzag up the street to attempt to keep
somewhat dry. I felt like we were playing a life-size game of Frogger and the
goal was to make it in every store. Once we were in the basketball court and
center market area, we started to pray for the city and play some worship
songs. As I was praying a man across the court caught my attention. I felt like
the Lord wanted me to speak to him. After 5 minutes of having an internal
debate, I decided that even if I couldn’t speak to him clearly because of my
lack of Spanish vocabulary, I would at least try to say what the Lord wanted me
to say.

I approach him and I realize he is
homeless, and he smells like a combination of alcohol and body odor. I asked if
he spoke Spanish and he said yes he was from San Pedro. So I proceeded to tell
him that my group is from the United States and Canada and that we are
missionaries traveling the world. I told him that we were praying for the city
and that as we were praying the Lord told me to come speak to him. I told him
that God loves him very much and wants to be in his life. The man looked at me
and said thank you. He said God is love and smiled. He then asked if we would
be in the market more afternoons because he enjoys listening to our worship
songs. I told him yes and he said ok and that he would be back. He shook my
hand and walked off around the corner.

I didn’t get his name, but his
smile told me he received the words I said to him. I’m hoping I see him again
and get another chance to talk to him but until then I am thanking God for the
opportunity He gave me and I am praying for my new friend.
