Month 6!! What in the world?! I can’t believe next week we hit the halfway point in the Race. There is still so much left to do! But here is an update on what month six looks like!
Location: Mothotlong, Lesotho
Ministry Contact: Harvester’s Church
Types of Ministry: They have a variety of things for us to do during the week! We work in a soup kitchen for 3 days, do hospital visits, visit the youth group, and prison ministry. I think it is going to be a great month for us here!
Language: Sosotho, but also a lot of people speak English
Weather: COLD! It is winter here up in the mountains, which makes for bitter nights and slightly better days. Luckily the ministry provided thick blanket for us to pile over our sleeping bags. We just do all the clothes layers to keep warm.
Wifi: Shockingly, they have 2 internet places in town. It is $1/hour essentially.
Sleeping: We have 2 bunk rooms for us to sleep in. Like I said, no heat so lots of blankets.
Showers: Hot showers praise the Lord! We take our showers around lunch time because it is the warmest part of the day. No way we could at morning or night without legit freezing.
Toilets: We have toilets too! Unless the pipes freeze, then you have to use the “long drop” aka porter potty out back. This hasn’t happened to us so pray it stays that way.
Laundry: hand washing in buckets. We warm the water on the stove first so we don’t have to stick our hands in cold water.
Typical food: We had our first experience with African pops. It is basically thick grits that looks like mash potatoes. We usually have some sort of starch and veggies (cabbage, carrots, etc.) at lunch and dinner, sometimes meat (lamb, chicken, or hot dogs). Breakfast always has butter bread and then either eggs, oatmeal, or hotdogs/bacon.
Adventure days: I’m not confident what those will look like this month. We have a ton of mountains around us that people on my team are itching to hike. We also drove up the Sani Pass (most terrifying road, but beautiful!) that we might go back and visit. We aren’t around much so probably just a lot of quality time as a team!
