Hola from the Dominican Republic! Here is an overview of my life right now 🙂

Location: Lajas De Yaroa, Dominican Republic

Ministry Contact: HOPE (helping others pursue eternity) for the DR

Types of Ministry: My team is throwing a kids camp this week and doing women’s ministry next week. We have 2 other all-girl teams with us.

Language: Spanish. Trying to remember what I learned in High School is a struggle.

Wifi: You have to buy 24 hour passes, so it is limited.

Sleeping: Dorm/camp style. All 21 girls are in one room with bunk beds. Having a real mattress is a nice surprise.

Showers: If you shower in the morning or at night, you can get a (cold) shower. If you wait until mid-day, you take a bucket shower or one in the property’s “waterfall”.

Toilets: We have them, just don’t flush any toilet paper or they have to dig up the pipes.. It’s a hard habit to break!

Adventure days: Yesterday we went to a place called “27 waterfalls”. We did the first 7. You hike/swim up the waterfalls and through the caverns. The guides literally throw you up the smaller ones. Once we got to the 7th waterfall, we turn around and go back. You either slide down the falls, or jump! Then after this, we went to a beach in Puerta Plata to spend the afternoon. It was an amazing way to finish our first week here!

My team is spending our first month on the Race in the town most people haven’t heard of, even Dominicans: Lajas de Yaroa. We are up in the mountains with an breathtaking view. We spend a good amount of our free time up on the “rooftop” looking out on the valleys and mountains.

The Lord is good and knew we needed this place. Our ministry home is a place of peace and rest. For people who feel the Lord through nature (me), this place is good for the soul.

This following week, my team starts a kids camp! Pray that the children of Lajas receive what we have to say and everything goes smoothly. We are excited to play with the kids and get to know them!
