Our power has been going out quite a bit over the past few months. At least it is consistent. We cannot charge anything or watch/listen to anything for fear of it dying. But what makes this situation 100% better is we get to light candles. I don’t know how man
y of you get to do this but there is something about lighting candles in a small space that makes it so intimate. Not romantic intimate but… intimate. Like God’s presence is that much more apparent. As I was looking at the candle last night I realized how much it reflects humanity.
As we go through life we are always surrounded by a life giving force. As the match meets the striking strip in the presence of oxygen a flame is born. So as our lives meet Jesus in the presence of God the Holy Spirit is now present in our lives. When we apply the HS to our wick he now is a part of us, in us. But when we have the HS, when a candle is lit, we do not just stay the same. Our wax, self, is melted away and we are completely emptied of ourselves. In the end, when a candle’s wax is gone the only thing you see is the result of the flame and the surrounding emptiness. At the end of our lives this should remain. We will be gone and people will only see the evidence of the Holy Spirit and the surrounding force, God.
My challenge for you is to not fight the change. Don't try to blow the flame out because you have no idea who is watching and will catch fire.
