This afternoon I put down the book that I was reading and walked down the street to pick up a snack from the little store on the corner of our road. As I was walking, and feeling the stretch in my legs I thought, “This feels good.. I think I’ll go on a walk.” So, I put my snack in the house and headed out. As soon as I turned out of our caged, cemented, “front yard” I was greeted by wide smiles, nods, waves, and some awkward stares (which are always to be expected on the World Race, seeing that we look very different from the people around us, yet all of these things were a welcomed and well needed reminder of why I came on the World Race.)
You see, month 11 is the strangest yet. This is my favorite month of the world race, yet time has never moved by more slowly. I feel as though the days are inching by and home feels farther away now than it did three months ago. Never have I ever looked more forward to something and never have I ever wanted something to come faster in my entire life. One thing that the world race has shown me is how blessed I am to have the family and friends that I do and I can not wait to grab hold of each and every one of them and squeeze as hard as I can. This is the moment that I have thought of for 11 months.
Sooo, back to my walk, as I was walking alone (a seldom and rare experience to have on the world race) I was reminded of why I came on this crazy trip. My number one reason—because God told me to. Seeing the different faces, the children ridding bikes and running around on the streets, the beauty of this Malaysian neighborhood was the perfect antidote to my “wishing the 11th month away” problem. I know that this trip is 11 months for a reason and I know that it’s not by accident that our 11th month was changed from Vietnam to Malaysia. So, Malaysia, I am here for 17 more days and I am ready to serve and love you like nobodies business!
Also, if you haven’t gone on a walk in a while, you should! It’s a great way to clear your mind, talk to God, be reminded of your many blessings, and to be refreshed!
