This past Wednesday (12/8/2010) I had an opportunity to speak about my missions trip for the youth group at the First Baptist Church of Lake Josephine and I had such a wonderful time so I thought I would share my experience.

When I first arrived I went to the cafeteria to sit and fellowship with the church congregation. Every Wednesday the youth and the adults have a meal together before they split up. After dinner the youth heads over to their building, also known as the “garage”. I know what you are thinking, and no, it isn’t really a garage.  It’s actually a really nice place with all kinds of fun stuff to do like play a game of ping pong or pool.

So after everyone was done eating dinner we made our way over to the garage, where I sat and had a very nice conversation with the youth pastor, also known as Mr. Altvater, and one of the kids, Dillon.  Then I watched as Dillon and Starlin, another member of the youth, played a game of pool. After that we watched some funny youtube videos and then I got to share my missions trip with them.

The cool thing is that I went to their youth group with the goal of sharing what God is doing in my life, which I did, but I also walked away having learned something. I am a youth leader at my home church and our youth group has around a 100 kids who come and go from week to week; and this youth group only had 3 kids on Wednesday and I think they normally have about 10.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the smallness and closeness of their group. I could tell that they are very tight nit and they were so interested in each others lives! I was only there for one night and I learned everyone’s name as well as a little about each person. It was awesome!

That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy my home youth group because I really do. We have a very big youth group and the kids are really reaching out and being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. I guess what I’m trying to say is that God is so cool and He works in many different ways! The number of the youth group doesn’t matter; all that matters is if it is surrendered to God; because if it is then God can most definitely use it for His kingdom and for His glory!

Here is a picture of me with the youth group 🙂
