This month my team and I have no ministry.
“No ministry?” you might ask. “Isn’t that why you went on the World Race?”
Yes, in fact I did come on the World Race to partner with different ministries around the world. The first three months of my race were dedicated to that very task. My team and I had the opportunities to work with girls stuck in sex trafficking in Thailand. In Cambodia, we taught english to kids of all ages. In Vietnam, we worked in a coffee shop teaching english. We also went to leper hospitals and the local parks to hang out with university students. We went to villages and visited families in their homes. We did a lot in Vietnam, actually. It was all preparation for our assignment this month. No, my team doesn’t have an official ministry assignment. Instead, we have been assigned to Unsung Heros for the month.
Next question: “What is Unsung Heroes?”
Unsung Heroes is a vision that has recently been cast by Adventures in Missions. The World Race has been growing so quickly that our organization has found we are in need of more contacts in certain countries. With this in mind, Unsung Heros was birthed.
The Unsung Hero is someone who is doing big things for the Kingdom in their country. They are people who have not been discovered yet by the World Race. They are the friends of someone who knows someone whose sister you just met. In other words, instead of being set up with a contact already in place in South Africa, my team came into this beautiful country without a person to report to. This month has been very different than any other month so far.
Our purpose here is to find these Unsung Heroes and meet with them. We find out about their ministry, what they are doing, the vision for it, the reason why they are passionate for this ministry, etc. We tell them about what the World Race is and then see if they would be willing to partner with future World Race teams. Basically, we are looking for new contacts for Adventures in Missions.
This month has been my favorite month by far. Due to the nature of our assignment, we get to meet new friends every single day. Although we love working with a specific ministry for a month, it has been refreshing to get to experience so many different ministries. God has given us little glimpses of what He is doing in South Africa, and man, has He been busy!
We have moved around a lot. We spent our first three weeks in Cape Town.( Cape town has my heart for sure, but more on that later) Our first week we were in Strandfontein. The next week we moved to Muzenberg. Following that, we were blessed to stay with a friend of one of our beloved squad leaders in Somerset West. After a 20 hour bus ride, we are now wrapping up our last week here in Pretoria.
We have been so blessed to see the many different ministries here. I will be dedicating some blogs to some of my favorites in the near future. So, to give you just a taste of what we have seen: there are several HIV/TB clinics all around South Africa. We have seen ministries that hep fund HIV clinics, as well as other medical clinics. We have seen ministries that use sports, such as basketball, soccer, and net ball to reach disadvantaged youth. We were able to meet with young men who run a surfing ministry. We were able to learn about the many townships here and the different ministries that serve them.
Overall, it has been an amazing month. It has been so encouraging to meet so many new people and to hear their stories. It’s been amazing to see how God has worked in their lives and how He continues to do so. Check back later for more blogs about some awesome ministries!
Funding status: I am $724 away from being fully funded! God continues to blow me away with His provision. My big prayer was to be fully funded by the end of October. I am so close to this goal! I have just a few more days to reach it. Would you consider supporting me? Click the ‘Support me” link to the left hand side of this blog. Please partner with me in this mission. I greatly appreciate your prayers and support!
Love,
