It’s amazing how sometimes complete strangers can speak words that refresh your soul.
I slept in a little too late today (mid afternoon. It’s bad. I need help. XD), so I ended up going to Spanish Mass. Now, while I can’t understand most of what they’re saying, I love going to Spanish Mass because everyone interacts like a big, happy family. It’s a beautiful thing.
After Mass, I ducked into the Chapel to spend a little quiet time with the Lord. I prayed really hard about the upcoming deadline (need to raise $3000 by Saturday! Gees…), about my difficulty trusting in Him, and my worries regarding the WR in general. There were a few other people in the Chapel, also, so I tried to keep my sniffling to a minimum. =P
After a while, I left the Chapel, and started walking along a sidewalk towards the car. An older gentleman happened to fall into step beside me, and I smiled at him.
“Como esta?” he asked me. My limited espanol allowed me to reply “Bien, gracias. E tu?” At which I berated myself… he was an older gentleman, and I should have said Usted. Come on, Kayla, get it together!
He said something else that was beyond my comprehension, and I told him I didn’t understand much Spanish. He smiles and said “It’s a beautiful day.” I agreed.
“I saw you in Church today,” he told me, laughing a little. “You don’t speak Spanish, but you were at this Mass.” Yeah, and everyone was staring at the white girl, wondering what she was doing there, haha.
“You should learn, it’s easy!” I told him how I’m going to be going to Central America on a mission trip, and hoped to pick up some of the language while I’m there. He then proceeded to ask me all about the mission trip, how many people were going, how long I’ll be gone, etc.
We reached the end of the sidewalk, where we would part ways. He grasped my hand firmly in both of his own wrinkled hands and stared deep into my eyes.
“I hope you have a good day, and may you have a beautiful time on your mission trip.” He was so earnest, so loving in the way he spoke to me, that I felt like I was truly being blessed.
God knows what we need. 😉
