Promises.

Such a powerful claim. A commitment. A word that holds strength to influence, to build trust and show love. As kids we would stick out our pinkies with a confidence that ohhhh nothing can break this promise! Or maybe you remember spitting in your hand and thrusting it out for your BFF to shake with their saliva covered palms. That’s straight business right there.

However, it’s so easy to make a promise and break it. Follow through is a constant struggle for us. It’s easy to desire something and then let it slip through the cracks. People have made a promise to you and have broken it. We’ve all been let down before, hurt by broken promises. We’ve also broken promises. Ultimately damaging our ability to fully trust in a promise.

I was chillan with my Pops the other day and heard, “remember my promises daughter”. I sat there and felt a little silly because I realized, “Do I even know all the promises The Lord has made to me?” Ehh what!

How am I suppose to remember promises I don’t even know. How am I suppose to trust in those promises. Dang Knutson!

Then I started looking them all up. Guys, The Lord has promised us a ton of goodies! Here’s a crazy thought, we have a responsibility in those promises too! It’s our job to snatch up those promises, to believe them and live out of the promises. Who wants to forget you have a huge present hiding in a closet?! Not me! I want to rip the sucker open and play with it!

The best part of it all…our God is perfect and His promises are perfect. He never has and never will break his promises to us. That pinky is wrapped tightly around ours and never letting go.

One of his promises that I’ve been cannon balling into is Phil. 1:6 “and I’m certain that God who began the good work within you will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

I’m often very hard on myself. I love to make list of things I need to work on and improve… Ehhh yea. But that’s damaging to a point. I get to dance in the freedom God gives me to be Katy and trust that he’s working in me and what I’m learning at the present is what I’m suppose to be. That He promised to finished His work in me, that one day I’m going to be the Katy He originally created, full in Him! Holler at yo girl! He’s doing he same in you! So we can stop trippin and trust that He’s doing a perfect job with us!

Here’s some more of His promises, so we can get it in our noggins that God is for us and delights in us because He’s a God of Love.
